Two goals from Moorefield captain Ronan Sweeney in the opening ten minutes paved the way for a victory for the 2014 county champions Moorefield over their local rivals Sarsfields. The opening few minutes were tough and tight but once Sweeney got the Moore’s first goal the Moore’s were never troubled after.
Keith Duane was first to raise the white flag when he kicked a good point from play within the first minute after a great ball from Daryl Flynn. Barry Coffey levelled the game a minute later with a brilliant point from play but Moorefield replied instantly when Daryl Flynn won posession from the kick out and sent in a great ball to Ronan Sweeney for his first goal of the game. Ray Cahill pointed from a free two minutes later but Moorefield were dominating the game a replied with another goal from Sweeney after he made a brilliant run to beat the Sarsfields keeper. Adam Tyrrell added two points for Moorefield before Alan Smith kicked a good point from play in the 19th minute. Aaron Mullins kicked a superb point from play in the 22nd minute to put Moorefield into a 2-02 lead. Barry Coffey was Sarsfields main threat in the game and kicked another good point for them but once again Moorefield replied with a point from Eanna O’Connor. Dan Nea and Matty Byrne added points for Sarsfields to reduce the deficit to five points but Eanna O’Connor hit a superb point from play to leave a half time score of 2-07 to 0-07.
Adam Tyrrell opened the scoring in the second half when he pointed from a free in the opening minute. Once again Moorefield were controlling the game and Ronan Sweeney set up Eanna O’Connor for their third goal after he made a great run from midfield and played the ball through to O’Connor. Sean Dempsey made an immediate impact for Sarsfields with a good point from play followed by a Ray Cahill free but Moorefield were now in cruise control and replied with a super point from Adam Tyrrell. Moorefield finished strongly with points from Aaron Mullins and Adam Tyrrell to deservedly win the game and the bragging rights of Newbridge.
