Well done to the Minor team and management on their victory over Carlow champions Paletine in the Eire Og Leinster Championship quarter-final!

The Moorefield Minor team were back in action at the weekend as they took on Carlow Champions Paletine in the quarter final of the Eire Og Leinster Championship.

Moorefield got off to a flying start when Sean Healy won posession from the throw in and sent in a great ball to Ian Meehan in the half forward line who made a great run to score a goal 30 seconds into the game. Corner forward Jordan McGrath kicked a good point from play a minute later before centre half forward Tom Connolly put them into a 2-01 lead after he beat Paletines Colm Heneghan for a great goal in the 3rd minute.

Mark Murray pointed from play in the 4th minute followed by a good point from play from Tom Connolly after a great ball was play through to him from Jordan McGrath. Paletines first score of the game came in the 12th minute when Shane O’Neill pointed from a free but Moorefield replied instantly with a brilliant point from Ian Meehan.

Paletine finished strongly in the first half kicking the next three scores of the game. Conor Crowley pointed from two frees and Gavin Healy hit a good point from play in the 30th minute to leave a half time score of 2-04 to 0-04 in favour of Moorefield.

Gavin Healy opened the scoring within the first minute of the second half with a brilliant point from play followed by a point from Conor Crowley to reduce the deficit to 1-01.

Moorefield’s first score of the second half came in the 37th minute with an excellent point from Tom Connolly after great ball from Ian Meehan. Cornor back Odhlan Duff made a great run to knock over a score for Paletine in the 39th minute but Moorefield replied once again with a brilliant point from Mark Murray after good work from Michael Buckley in the half back line and Mark McDermott.

Shane O’Neill reduced the deficit to 1-01 once again when he converted a free in the 40th minute but Mark Murray put Moorefield back into a 1-02 lead when he kicked a well worked point with great play involving Gavin Naughton, Tom Connolly and Michael Buckley. Ian Meehan made another great run to kick his second point of the game in the 39th minute to put them into a two goal lead.

A free from Conor Crowley in the 50th minute reduced the deficit to 1-02 but Moorefield replied once again kicking the next three points in four minutes. Sean Healy kicked a good point from play followed by a converted free from Mark Murray.

Moorefield’s last score of the game came in the 56th minute with a point from play from subsitute Ian Dunne to put them into a 2-02 lead. Paletine refused to give up and battled hard in the final minutes, centre half back Conor O’Doherty made a good run from the half back line to kick a point followed by a goal from Conor Crowley to reduce the deficit to 1-01 but Moorefield had done enough and deservedly won the game 2-11 to 1-10.
