Under 16 A Championship

Moorefield got off to a flying start in the Under 16A championship with a comfortable win over Aylmer Gaels on Friday evening. Aylmer Gaels were first to raise the white flag when Adam Nolan kicked a good point from play within the first minute after Billy Maher won possession in midfield and sent in a great ball to Nolan. Moorefield’s first score came five minutes later when Dylan Burke made a great run from the half back line to level the game and they took the lead in the 7th minute with a point from Gary Redmond. Gary Redmond pointed from a free in the 10th minute and he put his team into a 1-02 lead three minutes later when he scored a superb goal after a great ball from Craig Buckley. Moorefield were awarded a penalty in the 16th minute and up stepped the on form Gary Redmond who successfully scored the spot kick to put them into a 2-05 lead. Aylmer Gaels battled hard over the next ten minutes but failed to raise the white flag kicking numerous wides. Moorefield were defending brilliantly with Cian Dunne, Dylan Burke and Craig Buckley dominating in the full back and half back line. Gary Redmond kicked the last three points of the game (2f) to leave a half time score of 2-06 to 0-01.

Moorefield’s Dylan Burke opened the scoring in the second half with another fine point from play but Aylmer Gaels replied instantly with a brilliant point from Billy Maher after he won possession from the kick out and made a great run to knock over the score. Gary Redmond replied with his 6th point of the game followed by a good point from play Adam Meehan. Aylmer Gaels dominated the next ten minutes of the game and kicked some lovely scores coming from Joseph Cluskey (2) and Fionn Murphy but Moorefield replied with points from Gary Redmond (2) and Adam Meehan. Moorefield substitute Terry Smith made an immediate impact when he scored an excellent goal in the 23rd minute after a great pass from substitute Nathan Williamson. Nathan Williamson also got his name on the scoresheet when he pointed from play a minute later before Aylmer Gaels replied with points from Joseph Cluskey and Adam Nolan but Moorefield finished strongly with points from Terry Smith, Adam Meehan, Nathan Williamson and Evan O’Brien to leave a full time score of 3-17 to 0-07.
