SEAN McCABE CUP

The Leinster Senior Club Football trophy is the Sean McCabe Cup.

Sean McCabe was a Dublin man from the Fox and Geese area of Clondalkin.  He lived most of his life in Drimnagh and was an outstanding footballer with Stars United between 1920 and 1930. He was also a member of the St Columkilles club.

He was a founder member of the Good Counsel Club on Galtymore Road in Drimnagh in 1954. Seán was a selector of the Dublin hurling team which lost the 1961 All-Ireland final to Tipperary by 0-16 to 1-12.

Gracefield were the first winners of the McCabe Cup when the beat Newtown Blues of Louth by 0-12 to 0-9 in Croke Park on 25 July 1971.
