On behalf of Moorefield Club, I
wholeheartedly thank everyone who
supported our marvellous senior football
team and panel on their successful
journey through the Leinster Club
championship.
The players and management team
greatly appreciated every message of
encouragement and support from so
many GAA and other sports clubs and
community groups, as well as from
the Droichead Nua community and
from people throughout Kildare and
other counties. Our sponsors have been
extremely supportive of the team and we
say ‘Míle Buíochas’ to them.
Messages from Newbridge people in
New York, Sydney, Dubai and many
other places around the world were very
well received. Most welcome were the
good luck messages from two of our
senior players, Adam Tyrrell and Ryan
Houlihan who are serving with the
United Nations Peacekeeping Force in
The Lebanon.
A very special ‘Thank You’ to former

Moorefield player, Christy Moore who
entertained the team at the clubhouse
on Monday 21 January with his unique
rendition of ‘The Curragh of Kildare’.

We are delighted that our players have
had the opportunity to bring the Leinster
Leader Cup, the Dermot Bourke Cup
and the Sean McCabe (Leinster) Cup to

the schools in St Conleth’s Parish and,
especially, to Naas Hospital on Thursday
17 January. The latter visit was a very
emotional occasion for many of the
patients, including Jimmy Cummins who
was a key figure in the great Moorefield
teams of 1958-1962 when they won three
Leader Cups (1958-60) and the club’s
first senior football championship in the
80-year history of the Moorefield club in
1962.
We look forward to the All-Ireland
semi-final against Corofin of Galway on
Saturday 17 February and know that the
good wishes of Kildare people will be
with our team.
Tony Doyle, Cathaoirleach
