Frank Dooley, RIP

Frankie Dooley, RIP, a wonderful servant of Moorefield

The late Frankie Dooley was one of the Moorefield players who paved the way for senior success in the late 1950s and early ‘60s. Playing in the No. 7 jersey, he starred in the 1956 Intermediate championship when The Moores defeated Rathcoffey in the quarter-final (2-6 to 2-5) and in the semi-final against Maynooth by 3-7 to 3-4. The final against Kilcullen resulted in a draw, 3-4 to 2-7, but the replay proved a bridge too far for the men in green… but the seeds were sown for unprecedented success in the next six years.

In a 1957 league match against Raheens, Frankie Dooley is noted in the Leinster Leader as ‘having played well’ in a 2-12 to 2-4 victory. He lined out in as No. 7 in the Intermediate final losing to Maynooth on 29 September 1957. Having played with many members of the successful Leader Cup three-in-a-row (1958-’60) and the 1962 championship team, Frankie took great satisfaction from their successes.
