Today we introduce a new series that we know is going to become as popular as the partnership between Moorefield and its main sponsor, Manguard Plus!
Each week we’re going to feature one of Moorefield’s stalwarts in ‘My Working And Playing Life’.
This week we chat to Barry Dempsey
Barry Dempsey -My Working And Playing Life
- Tell us a little about your role and day to day working life in Manguard plus?
I am currently the Health and Safety Officer and part of the Compliance Team in Manguard Plus. It’s a role that has different challenges everyday for a company that is constantly growing.
- Manguard Plus is a very loyal sponsor of sport and you are heavily involved in Moorefield – tell me about your involvement with the club
I have been involved in Moorefield GAA for as long as I can remember one way or another. Currently I am involved coaching the Under 14s and have been involved with this current group for a number of years now.
- How important is Manguard’s sponsorship of Moorefield
Sponsorship for any club or organisation is important. It is more important for a club with the size and aspirations of a club like ours. The underage committee do a great job organising over 300 kids Mini Moores Training on Saturday morning. There needs to be an adequate amount of footballs and equipment to ensure that all these kids can be catered for. The office is like MC Sports at times and I am on first name terms with their delivery driver as he is here that often dropping off gear for the underage teams. Manguard Plus are sponsoring every football team from seniors right the way down to the Mini Moores, male and female as well as some of the hurling teams. I am not sure there are many clubs in the country that are lucky enough to have sponsorship as good as that.
- What are your hopes for the season ahead
Personally I hope we are past Covid-19 and the sport is back for good. I hope to get all the u14s back up training and enjoying the sport again after so long away from it. From that I hope to see the lads improving and progressing, and one day we will see a few of them line out for the seniors in 4/5 years.
- Apart from work and sport, what are your hobbies
I can’t wait to get back into the pub for a pint for the lads.
- Favourite food
I am fond of a chicken curry.
- Favourite music
- Favourite drink
My favourite drink is orange juice.
- Best player you ever played with at Moorefield
You could nearly mention any of the players who have played senior in the last 10 years. Roli Sweeney, Ross Glavin, Paddy Murray all club legends. Adam Tyrrell might get up with them if he wins another few championships.
- The best player you ever played against
Anton Sullivan from Offaly once scored about 3-7 off me in about 25mins of a club game.
- Favourite county team (apart from Kildare)
I enjoy watching a good footballing team like the Dubs.
- Favourite Moorefield Magic Moment?
The two club Leinsters were special for different reasons, but the last 5 minutes against St Loman’s in the 2017 club final will be hard topped for any club member.
