While we await the return of our Mini Moores and Mighty Moores training sessions we are resharing the poem the late Lorcán O'Rourke wrote in tribute to our future stars during Lockdown in April 2020.
In Praise of our Moorefield Boys and Girls
I heard the sound of silence
When the virus closed the fields
The gates were locked in Pollardstown
While the grass grew tall and green
The Moorefield fields are empty
With pitches out of bounds
Where we love the hurling and football
With friendship all around
The players they all stayed at home
To protect their health and friends
Checked their kit and heard the call
A hurley, football, a concrete wall
I heard it in the early morning
All day long it rang
In every estate and park
From midday until dark
The sound of sliotar on camán
Pinging on the garden wall
The thud of football leather
Echoed out as a call to all
They practise all the skills
The boys and girls in green
They get ready to play again
When better days are here
It’s tough for now at home all day
But our future seniors dream
Of fields of play in Pollardstown
When the whistle blows again
We dream of games in summer
And finals in September
Trophies to be collected
And fond memories to remember
So, keep up your practice
And get your skills in tune
There’s magic in your hands and feet
To make the scoreboard sing
